Today’s post will not be filled with links to evidence or too deep of thinking, but rather to share the sustainability thoughts going into the design of Toward Wellth.
It’s threefold…
In the space design itself, thought is being put into what materials will be used, if those materials can be reused in the future, and if they add long-term sustainability. There have been, thus far, two external sustainability experts and one sustainable materials provider engaged in the design process. The intent is that this space will not be your typical “drywall and drop ceiling” build.
In the operations design, the least amount of waste is the goal. The sustainability experts are engaged to think about everything from materials being used in the facility (reusable, not disposable cups?) through consumption of utilities (gas, water, electric).
In the programming design, it’s intended to have continual community programming to help inform patrons about the actions they can take to contribute to a more sustainable environment. Often times people need to become problem aware before they can be solution aware and take action. Bringing awareness to issues with waste (energy, water, garbage, recycling, etc) and providing alternative understanding are goals to be incorporated in ongoing programming.
How are you thinking about reducing your waste footprint?
