Central to creating a space with purposeful design is looking at the most likely programming that can impact your agency.
In a world where digital screens often replace face-to-face interactions, social wellness, relating to other persons to improve wellness, becomes more critical than ever at assisting you in achieving that agency. Loneliness and isolation affect people of all ages, leading to mental health challenges.
For more, see this embedded post from April 9 that examines this problem in more detail:
But this is no reason to fear it is all doom and gloom! Toward Wellth is here to create vibrant communities where individuals can connect, learn, and thrive. In this post, we’ll explore the initial TowardWellth programming ideas intended to enhance social wellness and foster meaningful connections—all within the confines of psychologically safe indoor spaces.

So what types of programming are being planned at TowardWellth?
There will be a 3 month rotating calendar of core events, which will be published closer to the opening of Toward Wellth. There will be mental health partner-directed content such as support groups, which are separate from this post.
This post explores the following 4 core types of programming: Mindful Movement, Creativity Bonds, Theme Gatherings and Nostalgia, and “Traditional Bar Events”
Mindful Movement: Yoga and Group Fitness
Activities that Nourish the Body and Soul - Using the TowardWellth Group Spaces
Yoga is a holistic practice that combines movement, breath, and mindfulness. Regular yoga sessions can reduce stress, improve sleep, and enhance overall well-being. Partnering with community members who are certified yoga instructors will provide this as a regular programming offering.
Group Fitness Classes provide a fantastic opportunity for people to exercise together, boosting motivation and accountability. Similar to Yoga offerings, small group offerings led by instructors of Zumba or other high-intensity interval training (HIIT) activities will encourage participants to break a sweat, laugh, and build connections.
Mindfulness as a subcomponent of this topic will be taught either in directly in this programming or as stand-alone modules that may more align with less active meditative practices.
Creativity Bonds: Workshops and Art Events
Nurturing the Creative Spirit - In both Group Rooms or the Open Public Space
Art therapy is a powerful tool for self-expression and emotional healing. Toward Wellth will host painting workshops where participants can explore their creativity - both instructor led as well as open format. On occasion this programming will provide all materials needed (canvases, brushes, and a vibrant palette of colors) and in other ‘advanced’ gatherings, participants will bring their own medium and tools.
Crafting allows people to engage their hands and minds. Set up crafting stations for activities like crochet, knitting, origami, scrapbooking, or making personalized greeting cards. Adding a social element, participants can optionally share stories behind their creations.
Songwriting Circles: Music transcends cultural and language barriers. TowardWellth will organize songwriting circles where aspiring songwriters can collaborate and express their feelings through lyrics and melodies. Who knows? The next hit song might emerge from these heartfelt sessions!
Theme Gatherings and Nostalgia Nights: Reconnecting Through Shared Memories
Sharing a Common Theme to Celebrate, or Bringing Back the Good Times
Holiday centric theme gatherings can bring together people for a shared experience of upcoming or current holidays. Themes will be published well in advance of any theme gatherings and where possible there will be free giveaways that are theme-related.
Nostalgia-themed events evoke warm memories and create a sense of belonging. TowardWellth will host nostalgic events like '80s nights complete with neon, retro music, and classic arcade games to let friends reconnect over shared nostalgia. Attendees will be encouraged to dress in their best '80s attire and share stories from their youth. Prizes for noteworthy participants!
Traditional Bar Events: Karaoke and Pub Trivia
Creating an Inclusive Environment for Expression and Friendly Competition
Karaoke brings out the inner performing star in everyone. Whether in smaller group rooms or the common space, TowardWellth will provide all the gear so participants can belt out their favorite tunes, laugh together, and cheer for each other.
Pub Trivia Evenings will test knowledge and thinking of participants. Bring your own teams or show up to meet new people on random teams - being prepared to answer questions on various topics—history, pop culture, science, music, and more. The friendly competition encourages camaraderie and sparks conversations over correct (or hilariously incorrect) answers [and team names!].
These are a few of the initial topics of social programming that are planned for the first few months of TowardWellth. Based on interest, participation, and success the social programming schedule will continue to be refined and adjusted. If you have an idea for a theme gathering or other ‘reason to congregate’ that might have wider appeal, please comment or send an email to ed@towardwellth.com! If you are in the Mt Lebanon area and would like to be an instructor of one of these activities (or an activity you can lead in a group setting), please contact me!
